About Me

Who am I?

I am a sarcastic, mildly competitive, and always curious woman raised in the urban south. I hail from Atlanta and I went to college a mere 70 miles from my childhood home, so international travel is my version of leaving the nest. My first transcontinental trip was right after I had graduated college, although I had visited the Caribbean, Mexico and Bermuda while in school and traveled to plenty of other US cities both for fun and to compete for ultimate frisbee. I flew to Europe by myself and landed in a country where I didn't know the language, have access to phone or internet and before ride sharing existed (aging myself...), so limited ability to handle transportation. It was the scariest and most amazing moment of my life, and I was immediately hooked. I knew that I wanted to travel to every country and culture in the world.

Why start a blog?

Great question, because as you may learn from reading any of my posts, my writing style is "stream of consciousness" and not very elegant, but I think this avenue will be a better way to talk about my travels past and upcoming. This blog is for friends and family to follow my journey around the world. The travel bug bit me hard and I'm taking an opportunity while I'm in a more transient state to see and learn things that might have taken years to discover.

What's my background and why do I think I know anything about traveling?

As Ygritte (GoT nerd alert) would say, "I know nothing." I am learning as I go, making mistakes, getting lost, spending too much money on some things and missing out on others, but, I hope my learnings are helpful to other prospective travelers (oh, and my brother thinks he knows everything about award travel so I am sharing his expertise).

I am documenting some of the amazing places I've already been to, including the food, culture, room and board and definitely the attractions to see. But most importantly, I am embarking on a multi-month journey that will take me from Atlanta, GA to the PNW, then to Asia Pacific and ending with a month in Europe.

I am excited to share my experiences with you and I hope you will enjoy following along.
