Bangkok. The biggest city in Thailand and one of the ten most visited cities in the world. Seriously this was the exact opposite of the experiences we had in Chiang Mai and a good city to leap off to Europe from as it is very much a large, bustling city with a ton of different cultures and history.
Our first night in Bangkok we did a dinner river cruise which was really fun.
The cruise was a buffet style dinner with drinks for money and then live entertainment. It wasn't great and I wouldn't say this was a must do, but it was a fun opportunity for us to see the city from a boat and also get a little tipsy.
The next morning Bri started to come down with a bit of a cold so I thought I should go on a run to see a little of the city and also get some exercise. Unfortunately, the run didn't go exactly as planned. I ran past a sleeping dog who woke up and decided that I was a threat and needed a bite taken out of my leg. Totally sucked, and I ran the rest of the way home mostly mad that the dog had ripped my tights. After getting back to the hotel I took off my clothes, washed the wound with soap and water really well and then used antiseptic to clean up and get bandaged. Unfortunately, Rabies is a super common disease in this area of the world so I had to go to the hospital as well. The Thai hospital was super clean and well run, so no problems there, but the five shots that I had to take directly into the wound were possibly the worst pain I've felt to date. Some tears were definitely shed while hiding my face in a stuffed tiger.
So I will say with Bri being a bit under the weather and me dealing with rabies that we didn't fully experience Bangkok the way that we had hoped to.
We did go shopping down the main street and get some cheap clothing as well as street pad thai (omg, so stinking good), and then that evening we visited the Vertigo restaurant on top of the Banyan Tree hotel so we could have a couple of drinks with views of the sprawling city.
The next day we took a gondola ride down the canals and that was also really fun and we were able to see a real live Thai Alligator ( I think it was a kimono dragon or something similar).
And we spent our last night in Thailand by going out and bar hopping and running into a Bachelor Party that had a really disturbing scavenger hunt to get through.
I wish we had experienced more and Bangkok is probably on the need to revisit list, but sometimes health issues get in the way of a good time.
Off to Europe on a twelve hour flight from Bangkok to Paris!
